MEZCLA, which literally means mixture, was formed in 1991 by members of Fuze (very well known band in the North West in the eighties) and Meli-Antu (the Chilean band that performed throughout the UK for more than 16 years).

MEZCLA plays music from the Andean region of South America using traditional instruments, some of which are made by the members of the band.  Their music expresses the joys and sufferings of the campesinos (peasant farmers) of the Andes and the shanty town dwellers of the great Latin America cities.  The wind instruments of the South American Indians, the strings of the Spaniards and the rhythms of the black slave communities have combined to produce one of the world’s richest folk traditions.
